Day 1

Arrival at Tunis or Monastir airport and transfer to hotel in Tunis

Day 2 : Tunis / Bizerte / Ichkeul National Park / Tunis

The day begins by heading north to the lovely port city of Bizerte, en route for Lake Ichkeul, a stopover for hundreds of thousands of migrating birds, such as ducks, geese, storks and flamingos. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 : Tunis / Hergla / Sfax

Today you will leave your hotel and head south for Sfax, via Hergla with plenty of stop offs en route. Dinner and overnight stay in Sfax.

Day 4 : Sfax / Lake Thyna / Sfax

From your hotel to the salt pans at Thyna. Here it is possible to see a variety of waders including marsh sandpipers. This is a bird spotter’s paradise. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 : Sfax / Gafsa / Bou Hedma National Park / Chebika / Tamerza / Tozeur

This is a day when you will cross from east to west, stopping at Bou Hedma National Park before continuing to the mountain oases of Chebika and Tamerza. Then it’s on to Tozeur for dinner and overnight. Today you may spot long-legged buzzards, lanners, Bonelli's eagles, red-rumped wheatears and desert wheatears.

Day 6 : Tozeur / Chott El Jerid / Douz

After a morning in the Tozeur area on the look-out for hoopoe larks, desert wheatears and cream-coloured courses, you head South East crossing the immense salt lake of Chott El Jerid before continuing to Douz. En route you may spot fan-tailed warblers, Tristram's warblers and fulvous babblers and once in Douz you will visit the area where you may be able to spot bar-tailed desert larks, hoopoe larks, scrub warblers and brown-necked crows. Dinner and overnight stay in Douz.

Day 7 : Douz / Jbil National Park / Grand Erg / Douz

An early start for a visit to the Jbel National Park and Grand Erg Oriental in the Sahara. Birds spotted in this area include cream-coloured coursers, hoopoe larks, white-crowned black wheatears, Barbary partridges, Moussier's redstars, great grey shrikes and Spanish sparrows. Dinner and overnight stay in Douz.

Day 8 : Douz / Matmata / El Jem / Sousse

Leaving Douz you head for Matmata looking out for black wheatears, rock sparrows and house buntings. Continue to Sousse with a stop at El Jem to visit the Roman coliseum. Dinner and overnight stay in Sousse.

Day 9

Departure from hotel to Tunis or Monastir Airport.
