Tunisian Treasure Trove – 8 days / 7 nights |

Day 1Arrival at Tunis or Monastir Airport and transfer to your hotel in Tunis or Sousse for dinner and overnight stay. Day 2 : Tunis / Bardo / Carthage / Sidi Bou SaidToday you will spend the day discovering the World Heritage Site Tunis Medina, the Bardo Museum with its spectacular collection of Roman mosaics, the Antonine baths at Carthage and the delightful hillside town of Sidi Bou Said with its superb views over the Bay of Tunis. From there it’s back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Day 3 : Thuburbo Majus / Testour / Dougga / TabarkaThe Roman sites at Thuburbo Majus and Dougga lie ahead, via the town of Testour, perched on the hills of the lovely Medjerda valley - a real treat for history aficionados. From Dougga you make your way north to Tabarka, nestled between the Mediterranean and the Khroumirie Mountains, for dinner and overnight stay. Day 4 :Tabarka / Ain Draham / Bulla Regia / Le Kef / Makhtar / KairouanFrom Tabarka the road winds up through cork-oak forests to the picturesque town of Ain Draham, almost 1000 metres above sea level, before heading south to the Roman site of Bulla Regia, distinguished from other Roman sites by its underground villas, so built to offer protection from the summer heat. Then continue to the delightful hillside town of Le Kef before reaching the Roman site at Makhtar where you will have a chance to see Punic, roman and Vandal monuments. From here you head for the holy city of Kairouan for dinner and overnight stay. Day 5 : Kairouan / Sbeitla / El Jem / MahdiaFirst stop is Sbeitla (Sufetula). Though scenically not as striking as Dougga, the site is well worth visiting as it includes some excellent Christian remains and an excellent 2nd century forum complex. The next treat is El Jem (Thysdrus) and its Roman coliseum. Though smaller than the coliseum in Rome it is in better condition and you will be able to visit the underground chambers which housed the gladiators and wild animals. From El Jem you continue to the coast for Mahdia for dinner and overnight stay. Day 6 : Mahdia / Monastir / SousseAfter breakfast you will have a chance to visit the ancient Medina of Mahdia before travelling north to Monastir. This was the birthplace of Habib Bourguiba, who lead the country out of French rule in the 1950’s and now houses the beautiful twin minareted Bourguiba Mausoleum. You will also have a chance to visit the Medina, originally built around the 8th century Ribat. A short drive north brings you to Sousse for dinner and overnight stay. Day 7 : Sousse / Hammamet / Nabeul / Kerkouane / Tunis or SousseFrom Sousse its up to Hammamet for a visit to its small Medina, then Nabeul – the ceramics capital of Tunisia. Continue to Kerkouane where you will have a chance to visit the only all Punic site in the country before returning to your hotel in either Tunis or Sousse for dinner and overnight stay. Day 8From your hotel you will transfer to Tunis or Monastir airport for your return flight. INCLUDED :
